Virtual sitting is a new trend for parents and sitters who are practicing social distancing from home. Parents are turning to sitters to virtually assist in engaging their children for short periods of time, and for a much-needed break.

Who Could Do This Job?

Virtual sitting is accessible to anyone who has access to an internet-capable phone device or computer, has experience working with kids, and is comfortable hosting an online interactive babysitting session with a child.

How To Get Started

  • Update your profile to indicate to families that you’re available for virtual sitting
  • Search for jobs on the job board
  • Have a professional photo on your profile
  • Update your availability so families know when you can sit

What’s Important To Know?

Virtual sitting does not take the place of in-home child care, and it does come with its limitations. Parents and sitters should keep in mind:

Never Leave Children Unattended: As the sitter, you aren’t able to physically supervise or control children when connected only by video. For the children’s safety, it’s important for parents to never leave them unattended during a virtual sitting session.

Have an Emergency Action Plan: While technology is great – it does come with its challenges. It’s a good idea to have a plan in place with the parents should your connection get interrupted, you lose internet connectivity, or other events take place that are out of your control.
