When a nanny finds their perfect unicorn family, both the family and the provider benefit from it. A strong connection between a sitter, the kids, and the adults in the household can be the difference between a thriving kid and a struggling one. But how can families find the right sitters among the crowd of qualified child care experts?
Passion for Family Wellness
Jillian Murray, this week’s guest on Sittercity’s The Great Unicorn Search podcast, shared how her experience working as a nanny with her unicorn family led her to found the Nanny Hub agency.
After graduating from college with a degree in Early Childhood Education, Jillian decided to pursue nannying instead of working as a classroom teacher. She found her nanny work incredibly rewarding because it gave her the opportunity to watch the kids grow as she grew alongside them.
She loved the family she worked with so much that she wanted to help other nannies connect with the right families for them. Jillian’s passion for family wellness means that she is dedicated to finding the best nannies to support a particular family through her boutique agency work at NannyHub.
Incorporating Reiki Practices
As the agency work continues to pour in, Jillian also works with her unicorn family as a part-time family manager. That means she’s incredibly busy. So how does she manage to keep everything balanced?
In the interview, Jillian stresses the importance of self-care and mindfulness. Every morning, she wakes up and practices yoga and meditation before starting her workday. She’s also a certified yoga instructor for kids, and is passionate about introducing mindfulness and Reiki practices to children at a young age.
Jillian learned about the healing nature of Reiki when she was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. At the time, she was burnt out, exhausted, and needed a break. Reiki helped her heal, and she found the practice so transformative that she wanted to share it with others.
She believes kids benefit from Reiki and yoga because these mindfulness practices help kids connect with their emotions, their needs, and heal trauma at an early age. Jillian believes that if people implement mindfulness and self-care into their routines at an early age, they can possibly prevent health issues in the future.
Finding Happiness Within Yourself
Jillian’s work with her boutique child care agency, NannyHub, is heavily inspired by what she’s learned through implementing Reiki in her own life. “There is no failure—only lessons,” Jillian said. “You have to be bad at something first before you can be good at something.”
Jillian’s positivity is contagious. She argues that passion and dedication are essential to your career, no matter what path you take. Her greatest wish for the families, children, and sitters she works with is for each and every one of them to find internal happiness.
