How Can You Celebrate Take Your Kid to Work Day During COVID-19?
Have Them Host A Meeting
In the all-virtual world, it’s a bit easier to get a meeting scheduled. Ask your team or a co-worker to join in for a meeting that’s led by your little one(s). Have them pick a topic, think of questions to ask, and research information to share.
Give Them a Work-Related Project
Years ago, this probably looked like stapling a bunch of papers together. Today, it can shape however it works best for you. Maybe it’s having them help you write an email (kid’s love typing!) or helping you create something like a slide deck, or simply mail a package.
Have Fun Together
During the typical Take Your Kid to Work Day, there’s usually something fun that is just for the kids to do. Build some time in your schedule to do something that’s fun for you to do together.
Talk About Your Job
Use the day to take time to talk about your job and other jobs in the world. Ask them what they think you do for a living? Ask them what they think your day-to-day looks like? How similar are their answers to reality?
Schedule Fun 1-On-1 Time With Your Teammates
Your immediate teammates have probably heard a lot about your kid(s). Schedule some fun, dedicated time for them to meet and get to know each other—like they would if you were in the real office. You could even have your kid give them a mock interview about their job.
Coordinate A Show-And-Tell
Whether your kids are working on school projects or the family has found a new hobby they do together, it could be very exciting for your kids to show that off to your co-workers. Schedule a time for a family show-and-tell and find out what everyone is doing while staying at home.
Spend The Day With Your Kids
If you have the ability, focus the day more on being with your kid(s) than anything else. It’s a crazy time and kids are processing what’s going on in real-time right along with the grown-ups. What they need right now, more than anything is a strong, steady support. Use the holiday as a valid excuse to tune down the work “noise” and focus on your family, whenever you have the ability.
Overall, use this time to find the space to talk to your kiddos and integrate them directly into your work/life balance with some fun activities.
