Walter is in his nineties with advanced-stage dementia; he does not wander out of the house, but occasionally gets out of bed for no reason and should be supervised and coaxed back into bed to ensure he does not injure himself. He is on blood-thinners, which elevates his risk of bleeding and bruising significantly. He has a low appetite and should be encouraged to eat and drink when awake. Patience and kindness go a long way for Walter. He has some limited verbal capacity and will ask for help without knowing what he needs. Care companion should ask compassionate questions to keep him talking and suggest rest (in bed), food, or toileting. Toileting accidents do happen, but there are laundry appliances on-site and are not frequent.
Care Recipient
- Male
- Somewhat receptive to outside help
- Age range: Over 85 years old
