When you’re stuck inside during cold weather, there are tons of fun activities and crafts to do with kids. Here are a few fun ones that kids of all ages can participate in. They will be proud of what they can create themselves!
Bubble Wrap Snow Trees
What you’ll need:
- Colorful construction paper (sky blue works great!)
- Bubble wrap (with the smaller bubbles)
- White paint
- Paintbrush
- Black paint or marker
How to do it:
- Draw a tree in the middle of the construction paper with the black paint or marker. It can be big or small, have lots of branches or only a few, whatever feels right for you! There should be a thick line down the middle with thinner lines branching out from the top of the tree for branches.
- Take one side of the bubble wrap and paint the tops of the bubbles white. Use lots of paint to ensure that it transfers.
- Press the painted side of the bubble wrap everywhere across the paper, making white snow specks along the tree branches, trunk and on the ground below.
- Let dry and hang in any window
*If you don’t have bubble wrap, you can also do this using your fingers to dot on the white paint instead.
Santa Face
What you’ll need:
- Paper plate
- Red and black construction paper
- Cotton balls
- Glue (white or clear work best)
How to do it:
- Cut a large-sized triangle with the red construction paper. This will be Santa’s hat!
- Cut out two small circles and one smaller circle out of the black construction paper for Santa’s eyes and nose
- Put glue on the bottom part of the triangle and place it on top of the paper plate so that half of it hangs off of the plate
- Glue the two bigger circles onto the plate for eyes and the smaller circle in the middle for a nose.
- Squeeze glue all across the bottom, uncovered half of the paper plate and place cotton balls all across the glue, making a fluffy beard for Santa! You can use as many cotton balls as you can fit!
- Let dry and hang in a window, on the wall, or on a tree as an ornament!
Heart Mittens
What you’ll need:
- Red construction paper
- Construction paper color of your choice (anything but white)
- Cotton balls
- Glue
- White paint
- Black marker
How to do it:
- Cut a big heart out of the red construction paper
- Cut mitten shapes out of the other color construction paper
- Glue the mittens to the top of the heart, one on each side, or anywhere in the heart that you’d like
- Paint or dip the palms of the child’s hands (one at a time!) in the white paint generously
- Place the painted hands inside of the mittens to make a handprint
- Glue a row or two of cotton balls along the end of the mittens, being careful not to cover the handprint
- (Optional) Write the child’s name or a lovely note inside the middle of the heart
- Let dry and hang up

Any of these crafts can be jazzed up or dressed down, for larger classrooms or larger numbers of kids you can have the pieces already cut out ahead of time. Have fun with it! Kids will enjoy creating something to decorate the house with and parents love to see how proud kids are of something they create. Be sure to write the child’s name and the year on the front or the back to complete the memory.
