I began babysitting and caring for infants at age 14. My entire dream of “when I grow up” was to be a mom and have a big family. After college I got married and became a career nanny. I did that for 4 years until we began our own family. I raised and homeschooled our 6 children, taught Elementary and High School language arts as well as music and drama in our homeschool coop for many years. I have a natural gifting with infants and toddlers and can usually know what they are trying to tell us they need. I’m usually very fluent in “toddler speak”. I am also a lactation consultant. My approach to childcare is rooted in nurturing. I believe every child is a gift to this earth and completely unique and special. I build a trusting relationship by affirming and enjoying the child and getting to know Read more them and letting them become comfortable with me. Most kids trust me quickly and easily. I believe in patience, calmness, light heartedness, while also being their leader so they can feel secure. I am comfortable following the parents' lead in terms of enforcing household rules and prefer to communicate verbally (rather than written) if that’s agreeable with the parents. As far as outdoor activities, I enjoy going on walks or taking the children to the park or beach if the parents are comfortable with that. All of this depends on the age of the child and how many children I’m caring for. I love pool and water activities if there is access to a pool and if it’s age appropriate. (I have taught many children how to swim.) I am willing to help with cooking, light housekeeping, and laundry. Also if applicable, I can grocery shop, run errands, take children to appointments or play dates.
