I’m Nika! Pronounced “Knee-ka”. I am from Tennessee but moved to North Carolina in 2022 and I absolutely love it here! I am a 22 year old college student with over 40 credit hours in Early Childhood Education. I am very family oriented as I come from a pretty large one. As someone with over 20 siblings, I have been around children my entire life. I love working with children because it brings me genuine happiness. I enjoy watching them learn new things and grow into little humans with their own unique personalities. I hope to one day become a teacher so I can really make an impact on the lives of children. With 4 years of paid childcare experience, I worked at a daycare as a floater in the infant classes with ages 3-11 months. I assisted with things such as preparing/warming bottles, feeding, transitioning to solid foods, tummy Read more time, putting to sleep, and changing diapers. I would switch from infants to tutoring ages 6-8 when the school aged children arrived in the late afternoon where I helped with homework. Upon moving to North Carolina from Tennessee, I became an assistant teacher at a preparatory academy teaching ages 12-16 months where I assisted with things such as encouraging their speech, walking, and developing fine motor skills like stacking blocks or using utensils when eating. I then got offered a position at a preschool as the lead toddler teacher for ages 12-23 months after about 2 months, I switched with another teacher and became the lead pre-K teacher, teaching ages 3 and 4 years old. I had to create my own lesson plans weekly which consisted of activities such as naming shapes, numbers, and colors, dramatic storytelling, puzzles, attempting to write/spell their name, understanding the concept of time. I have worked with three different sets of twins. I also worked with children who have disabilities such as autism and adhd. I don’t treat any child differently but I am more cautious around them such as avoiding loud sudden noises for children with autism and developing routines for children with adhd. I love painting and doing arts and crafts! I do believe the saying, “Sorry about the mess, we are learning here” because messes are just proof that the child is trying but I also believe in having a clean house after our activities are completed. In my free time I enjoy reading, writing, dancing, and playing sports such as volleyball, tennis, and soccer. As much as I enjoy having fun - safety and supervision is number one.
