My name is Alyssa Rosenberger, and I am an environmental educator. From January to November of 2023, I worked for the Student Conservation Association (SCA) as an environmental educator in the Finger Lakes at many public environmental centers such as Taughannock Falls State Park, Watkins Glen State Park, and Robert H. Treman State Park. I witnessed first-hand how outdoor experiences impact children’s views of nature. I pointed out a frog next to a boy during one of the SCA environmental programs, and with his mouth gaping in surprise, he asked me, “Is that frog real?” He had never been by a pond before, so I explained its ecosystem. Creating early experiences in nature for children is important to me because it will build compassion towards the natural world.
