Growing up, my mother worked professionally as the Director of an esteemed child development center near the U of U. This meant that from a young age I spent much of my after-school free time at my mom's work, playing with the kids and helping teachers in their classrooms. At 12, I started babysitting for a handful of families and have continued to care for those children, as well as some new families, as they've grown older. Not only have they entrusted me with their children, but on many occasions I have cared for their houses and pets in times of need. It's been a joy getting to know these children and their parents, and an honor to be a part of their journey so far. I began volunteering part-time at a child development center at 14 and started formally working there when I turned 16. I have now worked Read more there a total of 5 years, moving to full-time during summers and year-round after high school. I've worked predominately with infants and toddlers, but spent significant time with all ages. In September of 2020 the program expanded to include school age kids as school moved online. This provided me the opportunity to work with kindergarteners through fifth-graders, navigating zoom meetings, homework, and social connections in the midst of the pandemic. My time at this center has given me a well-rounded understanding of children at all developmental stages. On a personal level, I take pride in my loyalty, integrity, communication skills, and work ethic. High school gave me the space to grow as a leader. I loved being a part of my school's Student Government, where I worked with teachers as a student voice for my class, and the National Honor Society, which held me to a high academic standard and led me to a wider range of community service opportunities. Performing arts, primarily musical theatre, have been an integral part of my life, including mentoring young performers in some youth productions. Other hobbies of mine include photography, crafting, indoor cycling, hiking, and ukulele. A lifetime surrounded by child development professionals taught me to nurture children of all ages. It is always a priority for me to cultivate trust with the children I care for and their families, as I've experienced that trust is a necessity in all healthy, successful relationships. I love helping kids understand the world around them and I think it's vitally important to foster their natural curiosity, using meaningful, hands-on experiences to help them learn.
