Hello! My name is Michael and I'm excited to meet you! I'm pretty new at this so please be patient with me (I'm sure I'll figure it out in a couple days haha). Alright, a little about myself... I joined the Army when I was 17, which my parents had to sign for me. I served for 8 years, 6 active and 2 reserve. I actually decided to become a teacher one day when I was deployed to Iraq. I was forced to teach classes to my fellow soldiers and it turned out I was really good at it and I liked it. Fast forward a couple years and I got accepted to the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. While I was there I took a million classes, lost countless hours of sleep, and lost touch with my friends/family. However, it was SO worth it and I don't regret any of Read more it. I loved every second learning from my peers, student teaching in 6 very diverse schools around Milwaukee, and meeting soooo many toddlers/kids. Yeah, anyone can be good at teaching but not everyone can be a good teacher. To be a good teacher means you have to connect with the students (or in this case your child(ren)). I am such a goofball. I am funny. I am not afraid to be embarrassing. I'm not afraid to be a child myself. I also grew up 2 sisters and 17 cousins, so I have a lot of experience working with children outside the classroom. After I graduated from college my first teaching job was in Grafton. I found out that Grafton is such a tight-knit community compared to Milwaukee. I was very involved with not only the children but the parents too. That being said, I was asked to babysit by a parent. At first I was very hesitant to say yes because 1) I was the teacher 2) I was a boy 3) I was a boy teacher. However, I couldn't let the kiddo down, so I said yes. Well, it turned out I did alright keeping their child alive and that parent told everyone. Pretty soon my weekends were booked and a lot of parents enjoyed date nights during the week. Fast forward a couple years and my twin sister had a baby. I decided to move from Milwaukee to Hartford to help sister with my niece. This was the first time I really took care of a infant by myself. However, I quickly learned how to do it and now I have a best friend. Some other experiences I have working with children is that I would do summer camp with the older kids. Typically I work with children up to the 4th grade, but at camp I worked with kids up to 8th grade. So, I have experience with infants to 14 year-olds. Favorites: sports, food, camping
