PERSONAL: My wife and I have been married for 40 years, and together we raised our four children, three girls and a boy, to adulthood, sharing ALL parenting duties, (2:00 AM feedings, poopy diapers, the whole experience!) Now we are blessed with four little grandchildren, ages 9, 7, 5, and the youngest, just 12 months (again, three girls and a boy,) and it is often our privilege now to care for them as well. I am a Christian; by that, I mean that I gave my heart to Jesus when I was just 6 1/2 years old, and I’ve been living for Him ever since. CHILDCARE AND WORK HISTORY: I began babysitting for family friends and neighbors when I was 10, and continued even into college. At just 16, I taught a 2&3 year olds' Sunday School class for a year. Later, I spent 20 years as a Navy Hospital Read more Corpsman, and seven months of that was spent working on an inpatient pediatric hospital ward at a Naval Medical Center, caring for children from newborn up to age 12. After my time in the Navy, I became a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in California, working as a nurse for 7 years before crossing over entirely into a career in law enforcement, from which I retired three years ago. As a volunteer at our Baptist church, I served as a Sunday School teacher, Junior Church leader, and Bus Ministry class teacher, teaching classes of children ranging between kindergarten and 6th grade for 30 years. Two-and-a-half years ago, I began working occupationally in Early Childhood Education, with a goal of becoming fully qualified as a preschool teacher. I have more than two years of experience (as of December 2024) as a staff or substitute teacher’s aide in licensed preschools, daycares, and child development centers all over San Diego County for a childcare staffing agency. SCOPE OF CARE: I have extensive experience with children ranging from Newborn through 6th Grade, but I am also open to working with younger teens. I am quite comfortable working with children who have physical, developmental, or behavioral challenges, children who are medically fragile, and who have special needs. As far as allergens, our home is smoke-free, but my wife and I do have a dog. I am currently certified in Adult, Child, and Infant CPR, and in First Aid. My priorities in childcare and teaching include good character development, politeness, kindness and empathy, and nurturing an early love of reading. I LOVE reading to children, and always bring with me a good supply of special books for them to enjoy.

Report

Trustline is California's official background check for license-exempt child care providers (i.e. babysitters and nannies) and the only authorized screening program in California with access to fingerprint records at the California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation and access to the California Child Abuse Central Index. The Trustline registry toll-free telephone number is 1-800-822-8490.

Pursuant to Section 1596.859 of the Health and Safety Code, parents have the right to receive information regarding any substantiated or inconclusive complaint about licensed child care providers. That information is public and can be acquired by visiting the California Department of Social Services' Internet Web site at "www.cdss.ca.gov".
