Hello, My name is Destiny and I’m interested in your job posting! I’m 19 years old and I’m currently a student attending Manchester Community College for Speech Language Pathology. I’m going to be completely honest with you, I don’t have any past experience sitting for people who are not relatives but I’ve always had a big heart when it comes to caring for others. However, here is some experience that I have had, so I hope this can count as something! For starters, I have an 11 year old autistic sister. She’s the sunshine on my rainy days and never fails to make me happy but it hasn’t always been that way. With her born, I had to take on a big responsibility as a grade school child; feeding her, bathing her, changing her diapers, the list goes on! I must say it is a bit rewarding knowing that I Read more have learned an incredible amount of patience, love, kindness and understanding from her, which comes in handy when working with any young child! In high school, Manchester High, I passed with an A- in “Child Development” and “World of Children 1 & 2”, where we are given the opportunity to go over to the nursery with the kids (4-5 year olds). We would read to them, color with them, play with them, interact with them, whatever we felt they needed while allowing THEM to take the lead. I absolutely adore children and I’m so intrigued with how their little minds work which is why I’ve decided to go into the major that I am in. Speech Language Pathology is essentially a speech therapist working with kiddos who may be in grade school but who are having a rough time in the speech department- most likely those who are stuggling with a disability. In my opinion, you can never have too much practice with doing something you love. For years I have been working in retail, however, with my mother being a caregiver I thought maybe I should consider something a bit more personal and long term. So here I am with absolutely no “certified” experience, seeking to build up my caregiving skills, because like my mother tells me, “You have to start somewhere.” I am fluent in English and an active learner in ASL (American Sign Language. I am a non smoker, and although I do not have my own vehicle (just yet), I drive my mother’s care with a clean record. I don’t have a criminal record as well.
