I started out at a very young age as a babysitter. My mother operated a daycare out of our home. While my mother was teaching my profoundly deaf sister how to read lips and speak, I was responsible for pulling in the slack with the kids. I had a built-in babysitting clientele. By the time I was 12, I was taking the jobs away from the older girls. The children respected me. I have always loved kids and animals. I have a way with both. My favorite job as an adult was working as a Kids Counselor, at Tanque Verde Ranch. As a Kids Counselor, I was teaching boys & girls how to become little cowboys & cowgirls. On our busiest weeks, we had over 100 kids from the ages of 3-11 learning how to ride 1,000-pound horses. In addition to riding lessons & trail rides, we did crafts, swimming, Read more had desert walks with the Naturalist, visites to the nature center, helped with tennis lessons, played games, took them on outings such as breakfast walks to the ranches’ homestead, country BBQ picnics, hayrides, rodeo arena competitions, etc.. It was set in one of the most beautiful deserts on earth and I loved it. While the ranch was my favorite job, it wasn't my favorite salary. I supplemented my income working as a Stagehand. I was lured away from the ranch by the bright lights of Broadway. The Metropolitan Opera offered me a job as a Stage Carpenter (Stagehand). I’m the only woman in history to have done that job on the daytime stage crew, for a full opera season. It was an honor I couldn’t pass up. While I don't have certificates, I have had many CPR classes through the years, & Emergency First Aid courses given at Tanque Verde Ranch.
