My name is Kate McCune, I am 23 years old and I am currently working towards my Early Childhood Education Degree. I come from a big family with many kiddos running around! I do well with children of all ages. I am good at communicating with children and effectively meeting their needs. Working in classrooms helped me become a fast thinker in all types of situations. My responsibilities included managing the children's schedules, engaging them in activities, doing laundry, and handling basic household chores. I also worked at Caughlin Preschool for eight months and cared for children aged 9-18 months. During my two years at the Boys & Girls Club as a program instructor, I taught students from kindergarten through 6th grade. I developed and facilitated lessons based on the Boys and Girls Club curriculum, covering subjects like STEM programs, art, and team-building activities. I managed classroom sizes of up to 25 kids, and during the pandemic, I organized lessons for different age groups to maintain safety measures. In addition, I volunteered for four years at Northern Nevada R.A.V.E, providing one-on-one respite care to families with children with special needs, in foster care, and in adoptive care, as well as their siblings. I engaged the children in various activities and encouraged them to participate. Lastly, I have spent three years working as a substitute teacher throughout the Washoe County School District, teaching students throughout elementary, middle, and high school grades based on pre-made plans.
