Hi! I'm a senior at the U of M studying psychology, and am pursing a career as a juvenile [forensic] psychologist. I work part time in a pediatric ER in Minneapolis as a behavioral assistant, where I work 1:1 with kids facing various mental health and/or behavioral challenges to make sure they are safe. I've always been naturally very good with kids, and find it very rewarding to work with them. I've been a babysitter for ~7 years and it's only made me more passionate about working with kids. I have a lot of experience in and out of the hospital working with kids with ASD, mental health, and/or behavioral challenges. As for my "rules" while I'm babysitting, I limit screen time as much as possible and focus more on activities (board games, reading, etc). I try and help foster age-appropriate independence and self-confidence in basic things like cooking, cleaning, Read more etc. For example, I encourage kids to help me make dinner and give them age-appropriate tasks e.g. having a toddler pick their own plate, or a 9 year old help prep and plate food! I find things like these to be very important in helping kids become confident and more sure of themselves as they grow up, and notice many positive changes in the kiddos. Because I'm still a student and working part-time, I can't do set days but I would love to help families with date-nights or as needed so long as it works with my school and work schedule :)
