Hi, I’m Mary Bean! I’m a passionate and caring individual currently completing my doctoral program in 20th-century American Literature. Originally from Omaha, I’m transitioning back to my hometown from South Carolina and looking for opportunities to work with children and families during this time. I have a strong background in education, writing, and leadership, and I bring a warm, creative, and engaging approach to working with kids. Why do you love being a sitter? I love being a sitter because it allows me to create meaningful connections with children while fostering their creativity and growth. I find joy in helping kids explore their interests, learn new things, and have fun in a safe, supportive environment. Watching them gain confidence and develop their unique personalities is incredibly rewarding, and I value the opportunity to be a positive influence in their lives. What experience do you have? I worked at the Southwest Read more YMCA of Greater Omaha for five summers, first as a camp counselor and then as an Assistant Camp Director. In these roles, I helped design and lead engaging camp programs, supervised and trained staff, and worked directly with kids aged 5-13. I also wrote and published a weekly camp newsletter to keep families informed. Additionally, I have years of teaching experience at the college level, where I developed patience, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage diverse groups. What skills and training do you have? I’m trained in creating fun, educational activities for children, managing group dynamics, and ensuring safety and well-being in a variety of settings. My experience supervising and training staff at the YMCA taught me strong leadership and organizational skills. I’m also a skilled writer and communicator, which allows me to connect with kids and parents alike. My academic and professional background has strengthened my adaptability, creativity, and ability to think on my feet—all essential qualities for a great sitter!
