I have a strong background in early childhood education and child care, beginning with being responsible for a former friend’s children 24/7 for several years, working in child care centers with infants and toddlers, and being a preschool teacher in programs for at-risk children. As a full disclosure, I am autistic. While this has not negatively effected my ability to work with children in any way, and has maybe helped me to connect with them more easily, it causes me to get overwhelmed by chaotic, high pressure environments. I’m now looking for a more low key part-time job where I can still help children. When I was helping to raise my former friend’s children years ago, I created a daily rhythm that included weekly themes with new activities, daily outings, story time, quiet time, and free play. I don’t have to do this… it’s up to what works best for Read more the child or family… but I’m able to do it if desired. Patience and kindness are my biggest strengths. I can walk around with a crying baby or help a toddler through a tantrum without getting rattled. I’ve enjoyed learning a lot about Gentle Parenting and Conscious Discipline in my last few jobs, but I’m also flexible and can adjust to a family’s individual style of child care. I love reading stories, doing arts and crafts, sensory activities, planning engaging and educational activities such as games and science experiments, community outings, and spending time in nature. I’m not stellar at playing pretend games or running around games, so I usually ask to be the “audience” for those games. I also love animals and am happy to help care for them.
