Hello! My name is Karissa and I am a 34-year-old female (she/her). I recently came to Sequim after spending 10 years in Portland, but I'm originally from an itsy-bitsy town in Southern California, where I spent most of my life babysitting in one way or another, either any number of my 8 younger siblings or friends, family, or members of my former church. Even while following other paths (cashiering, university, and even studying abroad), childcare is something I just keep coming back to, finding various opportunities to babysit or nanny, no matter what else I am doing with my life. I am a cat lover (I adopted my kitty Freya about fuor years ago) but have no problems with dogs, am a lover of all things Harry Potter (before Rowling's transphobic comments) and Doctor Who, and have been an avid “buveur d'encre” (ink-drinker/bookworm in French <-just learned that term and Read more am obsessed) since I was 5-years-old. I’ve also recently become a tumbler-maker, though it’s still new to me. After over a decade of working with the general public as a cashier, focusing on assisting hundreds of people a day, I am looking to channel all of my focus and considerable people-pleasing skills honed from “The Friendliest Store in Town,” into making the lives of a family just a little bit easier and helping children to become the best versions of themselves. While working at New Seasons, I was also able to improve my interpersonal skills (in addition to the money-handling and grocery bagging, lol), making me an even more positive person. Also, I was able to develop lasting relationships with customers, often remembering things that they had mentioned before (personally, or even a product that they couldn’t find) and strive to make interactions more personal and people to feel more seen. I have always been a very responsible person (oldest-child syndrome, lol) and I genuinely enjoy spending time with children. I am good at keeping to a schedule but also finding fun ways to entertain young children (while still imparting knowledge where appropriate). I always strive to make things more efficient, and am always willing to lend a helping hand. I am detail-oriented, creative, and intuitive. Although I do not currently have a car, I do have a clean & valid Oregon driver’s license, and have been accident-free for over 10 years, and am in the process of renewing my adult, child, and infant first aid and cpr certifications.
