Hello, My name is Elizabeth (Betsy) Nelson! I am 22 years old, from Lancaster Pennsylvania, and a student. My husband and I moved around a lot while he was in the army but he is out now and we are lucky enough to get to attend the University of Texas here in Austin. I’m currently in the honors humanities program studying democratization and Turkish. I’ve babysat for a few family members (mostly newborns), but most of my experience is with children’s activity planning for groups ages 5 to 13. I was a volunteer and intern at the Ephrata Public Library in Pennsylvania from middle to high school. I did children’s programming there, running their acting camps and many other events for kids. I also worked as an intern in the Family Fun office at Millersville University in Pennsylvania, this job involved working with groups of children and sitting on the Read more Disability Art Council. My last job was as a rock climbing instructor at my college where I taught adults and children the importance of safety in rock climbing. We also had a few camps for kids to learn rock climbing. When done in a safe setting rock climbing can be a great stress reliever, work out, and confidence booster. During my time at the rock wall I also went through a basic gym first aid training. I also had first aid training in ROTC. I’ve seen first hand how these activities teach responsibility and respect. Personally, I am a very active person. I rock climb outside and inside often, swim about two or three days a week before classes and love taking my dog on walks exploring the city. Fortunately I have a very supportive husband and I’ve been able to travel all over the country to climb and hike. Needless to say if your children enjoy being outside, I’ll be there with them! My education is my primary concern of course, but this semester I’ve only taken 12 credits because I wanted to be able to work and focus on my Turkish. I’ve tutored for children before in music, English, history, Arabic, and math. I also have worked as a note taker for college classrooms helping disabled students. I’m a firm believer in taking your education outside, learning through games, and personalizing your education. As far as transportation goes, I have a 2010 Chevy that has an extended cab (more than enough room for 3 adults in the back, let alone kids). I live at The Block on Leon in West Campus.
