I recently started an internship as a research assistant for the cognitive development lab, where I work with children to understand how memory develops. I am a college student pursuing a dual major in psychology and criminal justice, with a 3.8 GPA. I am attending UCCS and transferred from Pikes Peak State College, and I am currently a senior with an Internship with CASA. I am also working towards PDIS certification. I started working with children in 2017 at my church's ministry. I would work 6 hours with a class of children, study the bible, and watch veggie tails, followed by an activity. We would also color, make crafts, sing, or do whatever was assigned that week. I enjoyed working with children, and I began using Sittercity in 2021. my first family was with a toddler, aged Read more 18 months, and I was with this family for eight months, but they sadly moved. I learned that I enjoyed working with toddlers and would babysit for date nights, live-in care, and whatever jobs I could find. I became a cook and afterschool teacher assistant at The Springs Of Life Daycare. During afterschool activities, I would go around and help children with homework and engage in coloring and other crafts. While the daycare shared my personal beliefs, I needed to find a better fit, and the hours were unmanageable with my school schedule. I am currently working at UCC's Cognitive Development as a research assistant, where I collect data from children and recruit adults and children to join the study. I have gained great experience working with children in a professional setting and knowledge about developmental and cognitive psychology while working with children. I also work as an intern for CASA, where I monitor interactions with children and families to ensure the children's safety. I document for the courtroom to determine whether parents should reunite with their children or if parents still need supervision. After completing my internship hours, I plan to transition to the Victim Advocacy Program since that is where my heart truly belongs because I feel like I can be a great role model and a safety net for troubled children. I got accepted into this program, but unfortunately, it does not count as an internship for my school so that I will do this in the summer.
