My pet sitting experience so far comes from a lifetime of not only being a farmer (before joining the military), but also taking in stray animals and providing them with medical care. I currently have 2 dogs and 5 cats that have come to call my yard and house a home. Most of them were pretty badly injured or very sick when they wandered up to my house. I keep a small pet door that, so far, many stray cats that have needed a place to go have used. Most of them wind up staying. Many of the animals I give care to wind up being claimed by their owners or find great homes.

As for any professional certifications, the only certifications that I have are being a pet owner myself and knowing how little time there is in a day to spend with your pet. We all have those times when we can't find someone to watch our beagle when we need to go to our brother-in-law's wedding (situation varies of course).
