My family got their first dog, a pug, when I was around seven years old. I did what I could at that young age, taking her for walks, feeding her, helping with baths.
We got our second dog, a chocolate Labrador Retriever when I was eleven years old, a brand new puppy at eight weeks old. I helped house break him, train basic commands, and take him for walks or outside to play fetch. As my parents both worked full-time jobs, and I being home-schooled, my brother and I were the sole caretakers of our pets during the day.
Once I was around sixteen years old, our family rescued a one year old Lhasa Apso who needed a lot of TLC to heal from the neglect from his previous owners. He had no training beforehand, so we worked with him a lot to stop his aggressive behavior and trust us to be the sweet dog he always was inside.

I have been a nanny full-time since I was sixteen years old, so caring for the families pets alongside their children happens frequently, and it's always an added bonus to the job. I miss having pets since I moved out of my parents home, and cannot wait to adopt my own fur child; until then I'm happy to surround myself with others. Besides dogs, I've cared for cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, chickens, ducks, and pigs. I feel confident in my ability to care for many animals, and I genuinely enjoy doing so!
