Kimberly’s Bio
I am a Vascular Sonographer preparing for the registry board exams and taking classes at Cape Fear Community College. In the meantime, I work remotely doing administrative gigs as a Creative Freelance Writer. I graduated with a BA in English from Western CT State University back in 2002, then from the American Institute of West Hartford, CT in 2013 with a certificate for completing the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DM) program. I worked as a mobile Ultrasound Technologist with NOA Diagnostics for a year in CT, lived in Florida for 9 years, and then settled here in NC. Growing up, we always had a dog. My parents had gotten their Scottish terrier, Jokomo, before I was even born. We were lucky enough to have him for 20 years before his departure to the Rainbow Bridge. Later on in life, we adopted an abused beagle we named Kirby. I adopted a homeless rescue I re-named Backy. He was 4 years old when I found him; a Dachshund and mini-Doberman-Pincher mix. I was blessed to have him with me for 10 years. When he was 12 years old, he was diagnosed with Canine Cushing's disease. I treated his symptoms and managed his illness homeopathically. Having always been medically inclined, it didn’t take long for me to research every source out there on treatment and management. I have always been more supportive of holistic medicine, so when the Vet suggested a very harsh chemo-drug (that research showed left many dogs blind and with seizures) I politely but strongly opposed. I let him know the treatment plan I had proposed, which was provided via the AHVMA (American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association.) Backy lived comfortably for another 2 years thanks to the use of Homeopathic supplements. Getting the opportunity to be his mom for 10 years was one of the best things to ever happen to me, and one of the most profoundly defining parts of my life. So believe me when I say I understand that finding quality pet-care for your furry companion is a critical process that takes cautious, careful selection. Trusting someone with your pet is big deal. It’s an intimate request, and one I feel should only be entrusted to someone who is highly capable, aware, prepared, and responsible, at minimum. Having (a lifetime of) experience and medical training is always a plus as well.
