Have had 3 dogs in my lifetime but that doesn't mean that's my only interaction with dogs. I've been dogsitting since I turned 16. I've trained dogs, I've done temperament tests on pups. I've had to help a blind dog around so that she didn't feel so scared and alone. The dog I have now is actually trained as a service dog in which I did the training for. I've also had a lot of experience watching cats as well both in houses that had dogs and cats and those that had only cats. I know how finicky some cats can be. Sometimes they want all your love and attention and then nothing to do with you. Some just don't want to be bothered at all.
