My husband and I do not have family in Texas, so we need to travel out of state occasionally for older parents (sometimes short notice) and getaways-- maybe twice a year. Possible long weekends. Our pups are very loving and love to cuddle. They are for the most part inside dogs. One is older but still gets around well and a middle age one that thinks she is the queen. My older dog loves to have a short walk every day but does not need one. They have been together for 8 years. We really do not want to board them. Open to visits daily, but would rather have them at caregiver's home.
