Meet Julia

  • Comfortable with pets

Greetings, families of Portland! My name is Julia: loving partner & daughter, momma to one hypoallergenic cat, 24 years old and sixth-generation Portlander with a wealth of childcare experience. Long story short, I would very much like to care for your infant full time (exceptions can of course be made)! I started babysitting when certified at age 11, eventually moving on to camp counseling incoming kindergartners at Tryon Creek Nature Day Camp in the summers, and to two different daycare centers as a teen where I worked primarily with infants. Last year, I began pursuing my teaching degree through Oregon State’s online campus, but am currently taking a break from school. Most recently I was employed as an infant teacher at a more corporate daycare center. Up to 8 babies (under the age of 1) were under my care at any given time with a co-teacher, and up to 4 Read more of them on my own in one of two classrooms (as dictated by the legal child-to-adult ratio). During my time there, I received my Oregon Food Handler’s License, as well as renewing my pediatric first aid & CPR certification. I bottle fed, read to, played with, changed the diapers of, snuggled, put down for naps, and spent individual quality time with every baby in my care when possible. I’ve loved caring for children for many years now, but found & rekindled my passion for this line of work in the last few months, stemming from my desire to teach, interest in early childhood development and psychology, and a deeply ingrained maternal instinct. With me, you can be sure that the one you hold close to your heart will not only be safe and in good hands while you’re not able to do the caretaking, but genuinely well cared for and loved. Now for the candid. I have been struggling with chronic illness for most of my life, more seriously so in the last four years. Earlier in 2021, I was able to work with my team of doctors to stabilize enough to hold a full time job. Unfortunately, my last daycare could not meet basic worker’s rights by providing reasonable accommodation due to severe understaffing (high staff turnover, overworked & under-compensated). I left knowing that I wanted to continue in this line of work outside of a corporate setting, on a more personal level with individual kiddo(s), with more opportunities to get familiar with families, and have a more flexible line of communication when it comes to both of our needs. I would be happy to discuss any other details you may wish to know over text, email, FaceTime, or phone call. Short story long, I am eager to be part of your lives and the life of your little one.
