Hello my name is Laurie, I am 46 years old and I live in Westchester County. I have been employed with Southern Westchester BOCES from 2007 -Jan 2024. I worked on our Rye Lake campus in their TSP (therapeutic support program) class. My class consisted of children with severe emotional and behavioral issues among various learning disabilities. During my time at Boces I became employed with Achieve I Beyond-Pediatric Therapy & Autism Services in 2013 and worked until 2015. My job as a Behavioral Therapist was to Implement behavior support plans to decrease problem behavior and also teach functional skills such as communication, self-help, social play and compliance. Extensive use of Applied Behavior Analysis (A.B.A.) Pairing with the learner (1.1 direct therapy) and building a positive relationship. Follow behavior plans written by BCBA. I currently work for the Mount Vernon School district in a general education Pre- K class. What a change but I love it. My class consists of 3-4 year old students and our day is ongoing. Learning fundamentals and engaging in social interaction with others. And lots of fun!! I am a graduate of the college of New Rochelle, where I obtained my bachelors degree in psychology. I am CPR/AED trained (2023) and I currently hold my NYS Teaching Assistant certification; to obtain that certification I had to be fingerprinted by the state of NY, pass the NYS Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skill's exam, completion of NYS mandated training in Child Abuse Identification and Reporting and completion of the NYS mandated training on School Violence and intervention. I am currently in school for my Masters in Childhood education grades 1-6. I have decided after all this time, I want to teach and have my own classroom. I have 20+ years experience working in the childcare field. I’m also a single mom to two daughters (ages 25 and 22). I’ve raised them alone since my youngest was 6 months old. I’m an aunt to 5 nieces and nephews, the youngest two (ages 6 and 5) in the first grade. I am very responsible, assertive, caring and nurturing.
