From an early age I always enjoyed engaging and playing with younger children. Always considering myself “the babysitter” at family events or parties. Getting to see their excitable little faces whenever you say something silly was my favorite part. Having worked at a school age program from several years now has shown me how much love and compassion I can have for others. Being a consistent, positive presence in their lives is important for them, and yourselves as we continue to grow and learn about ourselves constantly. Starting at an after school/summer program when I was 19, I didn’t know what I was doing. I began by helping to set up games and activities, and once the children arrived I would play and interact with them. As my time went on there I began to realized how much work goes into a childrens program. It is so much more than Read more just keeping them entertained for a few hours. You have to mentor them, encourage them, be their friend but also their guardian. Building a relationship with a child is something so precious. You have to keep them safe while also making sure they still get to be a kid! Teach them. We can teach them so much without ever even knowing it. It’s incredible to watch them grow into little mini adults. 10 years experience working with school children, before and after school, as well as summer camps. Several years of babysitting experience in my teenage years. CPR/First Aid certified.
