Since I was a baby, my whole world has revolved around children. I happened to grow up in an at-home daycare that ran by my mother. I am also the middle child of five children; so as one would guess, I am all too familiar with chaos and youth. My mother's daycare gave me the opportunity to begin my childcare experience at a very young age, due to the everyday exposure. I began babysitting the daycare families and my siblings at the age of eleven, and since then, my experience has only strengthened. During my high school career, I was hired at a local daycare. Within a year of being hired, I was promoted to a Lead position, and had the opportunity to work in the Preschool classrooms, where I helped prepare and deliver lessons, as well as assist with classroom clean up, play time, potty training, and building relationships Read more with parents and guardians. It is because of my childhood that truly inspired me to choose a career path working hands-on with youth and their families. I studied Early Childhood my first two years attending UW-Stout; which all in all gave me great experience and learning opportunities. However, my junior year of college, I decided to change my major to Vocational Rehabilitation Studies. I wanted to challenge myself, and felt inspired to learn more about disabilities and mental health, to better help my future students/clients. Within the last three years, I have had the opportunity to work a handful of challenging, yet rewarding jobs that revolve around the mental health field. From a resident counselor, to a mental health practitioner, and most recently, a youth case manager. These jobs have taught me true empathy, patience, and communication skills. It has shown me to go out of my comfort zone, and how to truly build relationships with each and every client and their families.
