During my first career position as a counselor, I was asked to cover the adolescent inpatient unit. It was in that short 48 hour period, I discovered my true passion, working with children. Since then, I continued my 25-year career as a counselor and focused working with at-risk youth. I worked specifically with newborns to children, aged 18, while working as the Hotline Shift Leader at the South Suburban Crisis Center in Tinley Park for over 3 years; first as a volunteer, then as their shift leader. As a counselor, and a supervisor during many years in this field, I have been faced with many difficult situations where I have been the staff member required to delegate how the situation be handled, assure everyone remain calm, while ensuring the safety of all clients and staff involved. As far as children are concerned, I previously mentioned, working with them is my Read more passion. I love children and they quickly seem to love me! I am dependable, focused, organized, punctual, health conscious, energetic yet have a calm presence. I love to have fun yet am able to follow parental guidelines in a sensitive manner. I can cook and make healthy snacks. I actually enjoy cleaning and know how to properly sort and wash laundry. I enjoy engaging in indoor and outdoor activities, know how to water ski, swim and downhill ski. I love to travel and have a current passport. I come from an immediate family of six siblings and over 75 cousins so know about large family interactions and work well-resolving conflicts in a timely fashion. I have previous first aid and adult, adolescent and infant CPR training. Although these are not current, I am more than willing to receive current training in these areas as well as any other training my future employer deems necessary and/or beneficial. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from St. Xavier University. Overall, I believe I would be a tremendous addition to a family seeking a long-term nanny and new family member to care for their child as if he/she was my own.
