I am a nanny with 6 years of experience caring for children ranging from 3 months to 12 years in age. I have had the opportunity to work with: -twins -special needs children -neurodivergent children -children w/ allergies & food sensitivities. Though I strive to incorporate activities into my work that are specific to the interests of the children I nanny for, I do tend to center engaging with nature, crafting, and baking/cooking (to an age appropriate degree) when possible. In the past these activities have included: searching/looking at bugs and learning to treat them with kindness while also respecting their space, constructing a house made out of hand painted popsicle sticks, decorating cookies, circling the room and pretending to be a different animal each time, and of course, making custom decorated bird feeders out of milk jugs! I am a creative and thoughtful person who loves to organize (spaces, Read more daily plans, and play dates). I have/currently work independently as a house cleaner, and am always willing to help families with keeping on household messes. In my free-time I enjoy reading, spending time with animals, exploring the city with pals, going for walks/hiking, and learning new types of art (particularly, baking, embroidery, and woodburning lately)! As a deeply open-minded, loving and supportive person, I believe every child deserves to be authentically themself. I always do my best to understand each child individually and embrace their needs. In general, I believe in approaching discipline through a gentle and communicative approach. By involving the child in the discussion, they are able to share feelings and ask questions as opposed to being taught that what they feel is unimportant. Logistically, I am experienced with bottle feeding, tummy time, diapering, bottle/food transitions, administering medication, potty training, sleep training, and working to meet developmental milestones. Among the most important factors for me in choosing a family to work with (in addition to open communication) is working with a family/families who understands that there is no “look” that makes someone an incredible or qualified nanny. I happen to have a buzzed head and I happen to use they/them pronouns. However, I also love wearing a wig that resembles my natural hair on days I miss having it grown out! As someone who had chronic migraines from constantly wearing my long hair tied up for work as a nanny, buzzing it seemed like an easy solution that ironically now makes it alarmingly difficult to find a job in the industry (at least my migraines have resolved!). I really care about this work and about kids and their families. My plan is to be a children‘s grief counselor. I have apartment walls scattered with art made & gifted by toddlers which I routinely cry over because I believe it is undoubtedly the best to ever exist!! I still cry watching the movies that I watched with the kids I have nannied (Nemo and Big Hero 6, of course). I wish I didn’t have to disclose information that feels vulnerable and unrelated to who I am as a care provider or a person, frankly. I hope this will aid in expediting the matching process between nanny and family in my case and mitigate any hurt that happens along the way for nannies & families feeling similarly.
