I have been a stay at home mom for 24 years. I have three children, with 23 months between the first two and 32 months between the latter. I have run a 24/7 availability in-home family childcare for the last 16 years. Children as young as 4 weeks old have been apart of my program all the year long including weekends and holidays. Not only overnight but over a weekend, and even a whole week (i.e. 3/12s work shift, weekend, parental vacation). I included the children in my family routine and their families included me in theirs. I have a heart to get the children through ever changing sleep and feeding schedules, teething, tummy time, diaper changes, toilet training, hygiene, terrible twos, etc. I have experienced children with colic, febrile seizures, speech delay, and ADHD. I know societal views are changing, moms want to or have to work more now. Read more I take pride in being a mother’s helper. Being the extra pair of hands I wish I had when my own children were young. Sometimes I’ve had to sit and hold a child all day and sometimes I’ve had to have multiple activities prepared because a child moved through the planned schedule so swiftly. Child development is not static and neither is human relations. Teaching the basics such as colors, shapes, numbers, and letters is important but so is movement, music, nature, and socialization, all in age appropriate form nonetheless.
