After retiring from the corporate world, with 25 years as an IT manager, I worked approximately 6 years in a home daycare. I then moved on to work at daycare/child care centers. Prior to COVID I was working at Little Farmers Child Care Center in Tolland, Ct as a Teacher to children 3-5 years old. Prior to this I was an Assistant Teacher at Educational Playcare in Ellington. I worked in a room with 2 year olds. I coordinate daily activities such as community circle, sensory play, art projects, building with blocks, magnatiles, Legos, etc., to develop fine motor skills. During community circle we include reading books, name/letter, shape and color recognition, yoga, weather, and explored feelings and emotions. We have planted flowers, hatched butterfly's from caterpillars, and created a worm habitat. During outside play I taught the children to make snow angels, pulled them on a toboggan, created sand Read more castles, and played on the slide, made an obstacle course to follow, and searched for bugs using a magnifying glass. I have assisted in the successful potty training of 3 children, and changed numerous diapers, as well as cleaning up potty accidents, I lovingly held a crying child in my arms that had vomited all over herself and the inside of the popup play tent. After cleaning her, and changing her clothes, I took one for the team (no one else was wiling :) ) and on my hands and knees, with a roll of paper towels wiped out the inside of the tent so we could put it in the washer. I have applied many boo-boo buddies, with loving kindness, and rubbed the backs of many children helping them to fall asleep for naps. I clean up from morning & afternoon snack and lunch, teaching the children table manners, and how to serve themselves. When I explain to people how I work with children, I tell them I don't just watch them, but teach them. How to interact with each other, and in the world, and to make good choices. How to figure things out, how to manage their feelings and express them in appropriate ways. How to be polite, and play together and interact with adults. I do this because I love to be with children, and play with them. I enjoy watching them grow, learn and develop into a small person is a great joy to me.
