Hi, I am Katera Navo and I have been working with children for around 10 years. Recently I moved to Oak Harbor from Northern California to be closer to my Fiancé who is stationed at NAS Whidbey. I would love to tell you more about myself and my background. I grew up babysitting, volunteering in the church nursery, and doing whatever I could to work with little ones. I have always had a passion for working with children and helping families. I was previously a Lead Teacher for an After School Program for 4 years for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. After that, I became the Children's and Parenting Program Coordinator for a nonprofit that served women with children that were experiencing homelessness. There I worked with children of all ages, including newborns and up. Most of the children were under the age of 5 and I had plenty of Read more experience being with infants. At this position, I was able to not only show love and support for the child, but also their mother. Many of them were coming from a mix of backgrounds and overall, a lack of skills. My focus was to provide a safe, connected, nurturing, engaging, structured, and strength building environment for the children to grow in. I would also help the mothers create a secure attachment with their children and feel better equipped to be a parent for their child. I feel it is important to provide children of all ages with a balance between calm but engaging. I love engaging senses, exploring the world, and learning new skills. I do side more with gentle and positive parenting styles. I also love the Montessori approach. I feel it is also very important to involve and work with parents, as they know and love their child best. I am CPR/First Aide certified, have multiple ECE units complete, and have 3 AA degrees for Pre-Nursing. I think communication, reliability, integrity, and responsibility are important qualities.
