Meet Alison

I know all students are capable of achieving academic success.  Born and educated in Massachusetts, I am a well trained and experienced educator who recently moved to the Southwest.  I have my undergraduate degree in English and my Masters degree in the Art of Teaching, both of which are from Emmanuel College in Boston. I am professionally licensed in English Language Arts, and have been teaching since 2010. I have taught grades K-12, with the majority of my career spent as a career English Language Arts Teacher. As a lifelong learner, I am currently studying and working exclusively as a literacy interventionist for grades K-4 at a nationally ranked traditional school. I have experience in the Wilson Language, the Spalding method both of which are intensive Orton Gillingham Reading intervention programs. As someone who has a learning disability myself, I make learning achievable for all students, and create effective lessons, formatted to the way students Read more learn best.   This past year I worked purposely and thoughtfully with my Kinder and 1st grade students who were struggling. By the end of the year, students who were unable to grasp the letter-sound correspondences, were segmenting CVC words. My students whose phonemic awareness skills were lacking were able to decode on a first grade level! I know the ability to read proficiently can change the trajectory of one's life.
