I’m currently a stay at home mother of 6 and would like to do be able to do something flexible to be there for my children and stay in the area of being able to care for people. As a teen I helped care for my elderly grandparents who came to live with my family. They were in their mid 80’s and lived until 100 and 101. I learned first hand how to be a care companion. I bathed, clothed, fed, drove to church and drove to appointments when necessary, changed diapers (last 2 yrs when they were bedridden), checked blood sugars for my diabetic grandmother and administered her insulin . With both of my grandparents I spent time with them chatting and listening to stories and learning about history. My grandfather was blind and deaf, but with hearing aids he could hear very little. Being able to help my mother care for them was something I will always cherish. I obtained a phlebotomist certificate, but moved to San Antonio and didn’t pursue phlebotomy. The hospital I obtained my certificate from I worked with lots of elderly patients and I loved being to make their experience pleasant considering they came for a blood draw. As a teen I also baby sat in the church nursery and several families from church asked me to care for their children. I have a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice and have worked in customer service in a college front office as well as a customer representative for USAA.
