Hello! My name is Esmi and I'm enthusiastic about health. Community health is what drew me to labor organizing, which has been my career for the past four years. This past May, I completed my Masters in Public Health from NYU and hope to start using some of my skills in a related field.

I have experience working with aging populations. In high school, I volunteered at a hospice center for about a year. I also volunteered at my local hospital throughout high school, in a more customer-service oriented position (front desk attendant, helping patient's families navigate the space, hospitality work in the waiting rooms).

I was active in an organization called NYC Action Medics, which trains every-day people on basic health care and minor injuries. Through that organization I became CPR certified in 2020, and I have remained somewhat active via events/ have had these skills come in handy in life.

Both my mother and favorite aunt have been care companions and the position has always interested me. As someone who was raised in a different country from her grandparents and missed them dearly, I think it's really important to appreciate and to provide quality support to our elders.

On a more personal level - I'm very active in my chorus and community garden. I love anything outdoors and active - picnics, backpacking, rock-climbing. I'm a huge fan of sci-fi and other books. I love to paint and draw, though lately I haven't been able to decide my next project!

Lastly, I'm Spanish fluent and took a few introductory French and Arabic lessons, in case that is ever needed!
