I used to work in a nursing home as a State Tested Nursing Assistant. As an STNA I was required to help maintain patient care including assistance in dressing, grooming, bathing, mobility, toileting, oral care, and light housekeeping. I was expected to follow and enforce all policies and procedures provided by the facility and the state. Working in teams with other STNAs was necessary to ensure safety and proper body care for a resident. Often I would use hoyer lifts and different machines to move residents and help assist them in their daily care. Charting patient care was a necessity during my shifts as an STNA. Attending meetings about staff policy and updates regarding the facility was mandatory. My overall goal was to make a resident feel well cared for and respected. I would tend to the resident’s needs in a quick manner for anything they needed.
