Adam’s Bio
I am Adam Simon, a psychology major and Hispanic studies minor at Whitman College, with a deep passion for working with all kinds of people and supporting others. My diverse experiences range from direct service roles to leadership positions in various nonprofit and volunteer organizations, focusing for example on on social justice and mental health support.
I have worked in settings such as Casa de la Amistad in Mexico City, where I supported children and adolescents with cancer through psychosocial activities and provided emotional support. This experience honed my skills in offering compassionate care while working with a team of psychologists. Additionally, my role as a Junior Advocate at Caldera Arts involved mentoring and providing behavioral support to youth from underserved communities.
In addition to my experience with children and adolescents in psychosocial care, I have also worked extensively with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As a program leader of the Buddy Program, I facilitated monthly events that brought together Whitman students and individuals with intellectual disabilities from the Walla Walla community. This role involved organizing activities to promote friendship and social inclusion, ensuring a supportive and engaging environment for all participants. In this role, I collaborated with the Walla Walla Valley Disability Network to ensure ongoing participation and created accessible program materials, including translations in Spanish for our diverse community members. This experience has deepened my commitment to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, emphasizing the importance of empathy, patience, and inclusive programming.
I have received certifications and training in trauma-informed community service, suicide prevention, peer counselling, and wilderness medicine, all of which have equipped me with the skills to effectively assist individuals in various care and support contexts. My fluency in Spanish and Hungarian also allows me to connect with diverse communities and provide culturally sensitive support.
In all my roles, I strive to foster trust, build meaningful relationships, and create positive, impactful experiences for those I work with.
