My name is Shana-kay Phipps and I am 23 years old. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. I have 4 years of clinical experience. skills that I have acquired in nursing school includes: obtaining vital signs, performing head to toe assessments, initiating therapeutic communication, calculating intake and output, administering medications, assisting with bathing patients, using a glucometer to check blood sugar levels, placing and removing a Foley catheter, administering insulin, administering flu shots, reading lab values, performing wound care, initiating treatment plans and nursing diagnosis for illnesses such as diabetes and heart failure, learning the function of suction equipment, setting up intravenous pumps, learning how to read EKGs, obtaining CBC, suctioning a trach and assisting with turning and positioning of patients. I have performed all these duties on the medical surgical floor, pediatric unit, Obstetrics unit and intensive care unit. I have administered vaccines to over 3000 patients. I decided that I wanted to become a caregiver because I love to take care of people. Also, being a caregiver will give me all the experience that I need when I begin my career as a registered nurse.
