Alison’s Bio
I have been a caregiver for most of my life, beginning with the care of my elderly and frail grandmother at a young age. She suffered from multiple complex health issues in her elder years and lived in my family home during this time. At a young age, I shared the responsibility of caring for her basic needs, such as meal prep, companionship, toileting, recreational activities and assisting with mobility issues. At 18 years old, I began working in group homes for intellectually and developmentally delayed adults. This prompted me to seek employment and education in the medical field, first becoming a certified phlebotomist, and then graduating from UMASS Boston in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I have been a registered nurse for 19 years. I have up to date training in CPR, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and also hold a certificate in CPI, a non-violent strategy that teaches people how to safely de-escalate and intervene in difficult crisis situations. I love my job, and nothing compares to the joy I receive when emotionally connecting with my patients and clients. I have a long history of caring for children, adults, and the elderly-both in private as well as medical settings. My current nursing interests are rooted in the care of individuals with substance abuse and addiction challenges, as well as those with persistent mental health conditions. I have experience with the psychiatric care of all age groups, from pediatrics to the elderly. In my spare time, you'll find me writing, reading, making art, going on walks, practicing my spirituality, spending time with my family and close friends, and cuddling with my 13-year-old tabby cat, Gaia. I am looking forward to further enrich my life by offering individualized care to those in my community who need compassionate companionship, assistance with activities of daily living, development of recreational activities, light medical care and emotional/mental health support. Please consider me for the care of your loved one from heart, to head, to toe!
