My most recent experience in caregiving was for my grandmother. She was a sassy and independent woman until Dementia reared its ugly face on her. She remained mainly able to care for herself as far as feeding herself, dressing herself and toileting up until the very end. She need reminders for showers and medication. She need assistance with meal preparation and clean up. She needed assistance to and from appointments. And she needed someone with her at all times to keep her safe. When it got towards the end for grandma and she became less able to do things and then eventually bedridden I did what I could. I have experience in bed baths, transfers, dressing, bathing, feeding and just being there for someone when they need them. I love that about caregiving. It never gets old and you are always learning something new.
