Greetings!
After 15 years, I recently decided to step away from my profession as a public school teacher to embark on a different path. To learn a little bit more about me, I'll explain what I loved about teaching and some of the reasons why I ultimately decided to leave. I love continuous learning, which is absolutely essential for the job. I love building relationships with individuals and being a reliable adult for those students who needed it most. I loved offering support for people trying to meet their goals. Why did I decide to leave? In recent years, the needs of individual students have continued to sharpen, so that serving over a 100 students a day became overwhelming. In recent years, my attributes of kindness and flexibility are increasingly unappreciated, and may have even marked me as someone to take advantage of. During my last year of teaching, I remember thinking in the classroom, I would like to work where my patience and compassion are received as an asset. So here I am, offering my services as a senior care companion. In a way, I am coming full circle. My very earliest memories are of my mom taking me to the nursing home and to the homes of her senior care clients before preschool and during the other hours of the day that she simultaneously cared for me and them. I always envisioned myself working for seniors, and it was in my earliest years where I developed my heart for our elders. What I have in heart, I might lack (at the moment) in official credentials for senior care. With a lifelong commitment to learning, I am happy to pursue helpful and important certifications. In the meantime, I am seeking senior care companionship jobs that are primarily focused on providing warm company, authentic interactions, helpful reminders, and light housework or meal prep that might be needed.
