I LOVE caring for people! I have eight months experience working in a long term care facility (nursing home) and a few months of home-health care experience as well. My CNA certification is expired, but my CPR and First Aid licenses are up to date.

When I worked in the LTCF, I usually took care of 10-16 residents every day. Since it was the rehab unit, the people I cared for often were recovering from surgery. Some of them were stroke victims, some were amputees, and some were recovering from hip replacements. A few were in hospice (meaning that they were expected to die within 6 months). Many had Dementia, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, or Schizophrenia. I provided gentle, compassionate care to all of them. Some of the things I did:
-Assist with waking, dressing, and grooming
-Spoon-feeding
-Assist with transferring between wheelchair and bed
-Assist with hearing aids
-Assist with ambulation (walking)
-Assist with toileting or provide incontinence care based on needs
-Assist with showering or provide bed baths based on needs
-Make beds and tidy rooms
-Document what was done and any changes in patient condition

When I worked as a home health aide for a few months, I got to care for a very sweet lady. Unfortunately, she lived very far away and I was unable to continue the work. She had Parkinson's disease. I assisted her with transfers, toileting, and grooming. I cooked for her, conversed with her, and assisted her family with light housework.
