I have 3 years of full time experience caring for both my disabled mom and my elderly father (post-pulmonary & heart surgery, and most recently stroke) They are both in their mid-80’s and needed full-time live-in assistance with the following:
Mom:
Bathing, dressing, meal preparation, transfers, medication, grooming, shopping, house-cleaning, Doctor appointment scheduling and transportation.
Dad:
Most of his care has been managing his after care at home, medicine organization and supervision, cognitive management - reminding him when to take medication, helping him find lost items, meal preparation, shopping, transportation and accompany to Dr. appointments, housekeeping. He is physically capable of bathing and grooming, dressing and feeding himself. However, after several hospital stays and surgeries, he needed additional care, including wound care (cleaning and wrapping on legs), catheter bag emptying and logging fluid output, blood pressure monitoring, oxygen level monitoring.
