Cynthia’s Bio
I like helping take care of children and people in need. I consider myself to be a nurturer and always seek to be in positions helping people. I believe an important part of caretaking is empathizing with the one you are taking care of. A level of consideration must be held. Listening and understanding the caretakee is important. I have 5 years experience of caretaking and would like to continue. I have taken care of people with special needs, people with illnesses, and people who just needed someone there for them. The task can range from simply sitting with someone to providing proper medication.
I have been the care companion of a young girl with autism. She even calls me her best friend. I truly believe in creating a level of understanding and consideration with those you help continuously. You learn about humanity and yourself. That companionship certainly sticks with me, as well as the care companionship I have with an elderly woman. Although she is healthy, I assist her. Her children have grown up and built their lives and that had left her a bit lonely. So I sit with her and listen to her stories. I let her bake her pies and cookies, and eat them with her, as she did with her children. We do her scrapbooking and decorate her home. Things such as these might not seem like much, but they do go a long way.
Being a care companion, as I said before ranges from sitting and listening to someone, to giving someone medication, etc. Of course that is very serious. In caretaking positions, I have always been responsible and met the caretakee’s needs and expectations held by and for them. An important part of the caretakee’s life is entrusted to me and I would never break that trust. As I said before, you learn a lot about yourself and others as a caretaker. I have learned that I will always seek to form a level of understanding with the one I am helping. I believe you must be there because you want to truly help someone. Not everyone is meant to be a caretaker.
Through the caretaking experiences I have held, many have continued to be in contact with me even long after i’m not their carer anymore. As a caretaker , I understand it is my job to be a support for the person I am taking care of. Care companion is not a position to be taken lightly. You must want to be there. I value this position very much and would never seek to compromise it. I have a genuine love of taking care of people. I have learned a lot, and will continue to do so
