Dementia Friendly Nevada | Reno, NV January 2020 – May 2020
Dementia Friends Champion
• Trained at the Sanford Center for Aging to become a Dementia Friends Champion
• Assisted directors in leading Dementia Friends Champion training for volunteers
• Provided library transportation to an older adult living with dementia
• Organized and decorated an Open Café to promote discussion in a comfortable environment for Reno locals living with dementia
• Raised awareness of Nevada Can by calling clients and sharing the new resources for Covid-19 that are being offered at the Sanford Center
• Offered support to older adults in my community by listening to their needs and having meaningful conversations
• Submitted surveys with personal information on behalf of older adults to ensure that their health and financial needs were met
• Provided weekly one-on-one calls to older adults who requested more social support during Covid-19
• Collaborated with my director, professor, and other volunteers to ensure that Nevada Can continued to provide resources to older adults in need as efficiently as possible

Activity Assistant
• Interviewed and connected with older adults living with dementia at The Continuum facility
• Wrote a generational interview on an older adult’s life story
• Collaborated with group members by brainstorming potential activity ideas
• Arranged meetings throughout the semester with The Continuum director to discuss intergenerational activity details and plan dates
• Created an intergenerational activity for older adults living with dementia and pre-school aged children that consisted of painting pottery and planting hand-picked succulents
• Provided necessary materials to participants for the activity-each group member was assigned to buying specific items
• Formulated a list of instructions for succulent care for each participant to take home
• Assisted participants during the activity by refilling paint colors, and providing soil and succulents once the paint dried
• Designed a service-learning poster with my group that shared our intergenerational activity and our experience at The Continuum
