Hello parents,
Michelle is an adorable young woman with a very kind demeanor. I interviewed her for a mother's helper job I had posted. I was going to hire her, but I ran into a rather peculiar situation with her, which I think is worth sharing with other parents on this platform. Unlike most self-employed people who prefer to have a contract, she said she doesn't feel comfortable signing any contracts or agreements with families she works with. From my experience, usually, the nanny or the mother's helper would like to have a written agreement with the family delineating the expectations, payment schedule, time commitment, holiday/sick day arrangements, etc. The only reason I can think of is the possibility of a legal barrier for her to do this kind of work. Anyway, I decided not to hire her. I hope this memo will be helpful to future families looking to hire Michelle.
