Madelineās Bio
Hey! I'm Madeline.
I recently graduated Sarah Lawrence College last May, where I studied film and creative writing. I love all things creative - writing, film, music, etc - and love to help kids/young adults feel comfortable expressing themselves creatively. I've been through a lot of personal hardships relative to grief, so I have a lot of patience/empathy for kids who might "act out" or feel misunderstood.
I'm now based in Beverly Hills, but I grew up in Newbury Park, CA and lived in Westlake Village for a short time. As my parents still live in Conejo Valley, I'm back home a lot and will always consider myself a Conejo Valley native š„°
I grew up in a household affected by Dementia; my grandma (92) moved in with a full-time care team when I was 11, and I haven't been the same since. I've grown to understand Dementia (and Alzheimer's, as my other grandmother was afflicted as well) in a very intimate way, allowing me a lot of time to empathize and understand exactly how this disease affects people.
I approach human interactions with a human-based approach. Sure, they might be aggressive or agitated, but I always think of the "cause" before responding to the "reaction." This might be in the form of a bland exhale - some kind of action that allows me to depersonalize from the situation so I am able to meet that person where they are at. This has helped me TREMENDOUSLY in understanding how to deal with family members on a mental decline, or generally how to deal with people who don't see eye-to-eye. Patience is indeed a virtue. It is something I try to practice day in, and day out.
