Hi, my name is Karrie. I love helping ppl of all ages. I am full of compassion, empathy and love, but also am firm when needed to be. I am honest and trustworthy. I am NOT cna certified, however I do have basic experience with helping older adults through assistance. My grandfather (whom I grew up with) had Alzheimer's. My great aunt eventually had Alzheimer's too, but I was more aware of how to handle things and eventually took care of her prior to her going into a nursing home. I understand the difficult challenges they face. And instead of arguing or challenging them, I try to redirect them and assist them as best as possible. This included ensuring medication was taken properly and at the right times, preparing meal, writing grocery lists and keeping tack of food and what was needed (someone else would do the grocery shopping). Changing sheets. Gathering and preparing laundry. Vacuuming and basic tidying. Ensuring my aunt stayed safe. She ended up needing a walker, but still would trip. She loved taking walks, so I would be there if she were to stumble (catch her or assist her if needed) but also ensure she would not get lost. Be company for her. I feel so blessed and honored I was able to do so.
As for me, I am my own show of entertainment for others 😃. I can be silly and fun, or firm if needed. I am full of conversation, but also a great ear to listen. I love to make people laugh and feel great. I guess that's why I love to help people. I have the empathy and compassion to understand what they are going through, but give them comfort as a friend to help give them joy and laughter. I think that's important.
